“And from that comes so much beauty and joy and love and sweetness.” “When I'm in LA, I go there every week and I really appreciate the time we all spend together.”

“It's so beautiful because I feel like that's just how my dad is – he's a girl dad through and through.” It almost taps into that kind of “little kid, girl dad” thing. He's so sweet to her.'

Rumer said at the appearance that she and her relatives spoke openly about the issue of family health in hopes of raising awareness for others in a similar situation.

“Our vulnerability and transparency as a family about what he's going through with me is so important,” she said, “because if it can have an impact on another family that's struggling with something like this in some way, or bring more attention to it.” “I think it's really important to fight the disease in the hope of finding a cure or something that can be of use to others.”

The family subsequently issued a statement on February 16, 2023, announcing that Willis had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). She called it “the most common form of dementia” and noted that “there are currently no treatments for the disease.”

“As Bruce's condition progresses, we hope that media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease, which requires far more education and research,” the family said. “Bruce always believed in using his voice in the world to help others and raise awareness of important issues both publicly and privately.”

“We know in our hearts that if he could today, he would want to respond by creating global awareness and a connection with those who also struggle with this debilitating disease and how it affects so many people and their lives families.”

The Mayo Clinic defines aphasia as “a condition that affects your ability to communicate,” which “can affect your speech and the way you write and understand both spoken and written language.”

The actor's family did not reveal what caused his aphasia, which has several possible causes.

The condition can occur after a head injury or stroke, or it can be a precursor to a brain tumor or Alzheimer's disease. Patients living with this condition are typically treated with speech therapy and taught how to communicate nonverbally.
