MDEA arrests four people for drug trafficking in Aroostook County

CASWELL, Maine (WAGM) – On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, four people were arrested and charged with drug crimes following a months-long investigation.

Over the past few months, the MDEA's Aroostook District Task Force has been conducting an investigation into suspected drug trafficking at a residence at 1057 Van Buren Road in the Town of Caswell. Based on the evidence and information gathered during the investigation, officers obtained a search warrant for the property.

Agents, along with Aroostook County Sheriff's Office deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents, executed the search warrant Tuesday morning. Officers seized over 2 pounds of fentanyl, over one pound of methamphetamine and over $19,000 in suspected drug proceeds. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is over $200,000.

As a result of the search, four individuals were arrested and charged with trafficking fentanyl and Class A methamphetamine.

Diomedes Del Rosario Cotreras, 35, from the Dominican Republic

The four people were taken to the Aroostook County Jail. Bail was set at $15,000 cash.

The Aroostook County Sheriff's Office and Caribou Police Department assisted with the arrests and search warrant.

The MDEA is committed to working with all federal, state, county and local law enforcement partners to continue to identify and dismantle drug trafficking organizations that attempt to distribute illegal drugs in the State of Maine.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
