Arthur Fils and Marin Cilic will compete in the first round of the 2024 Paris Masters on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Here is our prediction for Arthur Fils vs Marin Cilic. This article also contains a selection between Arthur Fils and Marin Cilic.

Arthur Fils vs. Marin Cilic preview

Arthur Fils has established himself as one of the best players in the world this season and the numbers certainly do him justice. Fils is ranked 20th in the world and 2nd in France.

He enjoyed his career-best season in 2024, winning two ATP 500 titles and beating some well-known names on the tour, including Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Holger Rune and Hubert Hurkacz.

Fils is 39-25 this season and will look to solidify a spot in the top 20 by the end of the season. For now, he wants to improve his poor record at the Paris Masters, where he lost in the first round of each of his last two main rounds.

Marin Cilic is enjoying a resurgent comeback season. The hard-hitting Croatian underwent knee surgery earlier this year, meaning he didn't play for at least six months.

When the former US Open champion returned to action, it didn't take long before he was back in the winner's circle. At the end of September, Cilic won the inaugural Hangzhou Open, his first title in three years.

But since that amazing run of form in China he has spiraled out of control, losing his next three games in a row, including last week in Basel.

Arthur Fils vs Marin Cilic prediction

It's a battle between youthful exuberance and seasoned know-how. Cilic has clearly had a great career, winning a Grand Slam title during the Big Three era and becoming a standard bearer for Croatian tennis over the last decade. But injuries took a toll late in his career, and it wasn't until Hangzhou that he made his first decent run at a tournament in some time. It's clear that endurance will be a major factor in his games at this point, but his resilience remains a solid trait. Add to that the fact that an indoor hard court adds bite to his penetrating ground shots, and you could be in for a surprise. He's played so many tiebreaker sets since his comeback and there's a good chance we'll get another one here, possibly in his favor.
