Cooler air, wind and chance of rain

PHOENIX – A cold front is moving through Arizona!

Winds will increase, temperatures will drop and there will be a chance of rain and snow showers as this front moves through.

Wind advisories are in effect in northern Arizona this morning and in northeastern Arizona this afternoon. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are likely, with gusts reaching 45 to 50 mph.

These strong winds could blow around light patio furniture and Halloween decorations. Therefore, make sure you secure them or bring them into the house.

Wind gusts in the Valley will peak at around 25 to 30 mph as the cold front moves through.

The cold air behind the front will drop temperatures by about 20 degrees, dropping highs in the Valley to as low as 70 degrees on Tuesday. That's almost 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.

There is also a chance of lingering showers this morning as the front moves through. It doesn't look like we'll see much, but some areas of the valley could see a few hundredths of an inch of rain.

To the north, snow levels will drop to 6,500 feet this morning, allowing a light coating of snow in the Flagstaff area.

Luckily, this storm system will dissipate in time for Halloween, and some of the cooler air will remain.

Highs in the valley will peak in the low 80s, giving us near normal for this time of year.

Expect temperatures to be in the upper 70s around 6 p.m., falling into the upper 60s after 8 p.m

Temperatures will remain in the low 80s as our forecast is to remain dry through the end of the work week, but another fall storm will move in late Saturday, bringing the chance of rain back to the valley.

This chance of rain may continue into Election Day. So stay tuned for updates as we get closer.
