Did Donald Trump humiliate his wife Melania? Internet users indicate…

Former President Donald Trump's recent rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City drew attention for more than just political reasons, sparking online conversations about an awkward public moment between Trump and his wife Melania Trump.

Shortly after their introduction, Trump leaned in for a kiss, but Melania subtly turned her head and exchanged air kisses instead of meeting him directly on the lips. Netizens called the interaction “uncomfortable” and “staged,” which quickly drew attention.

So one user posted, “How he wants us to want him when his own damn wife hates him,” while another user reiterated, “Melania hates that man.” Sis can't even hide it!”

“You couldn't even do the Hawley kiss?” one joked.

Melania's pushy attitude towards Donald is a bit old

In a similar incident in 2020, Melania pulled her hand away when Trump reached for it as they exited Air Force One. Many pointed out that this wasn't the first time she appeared to reject his advances, as in a now-infamous 2017 incident at Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion Airport in which she slapped his hand away. Melania later addressed this incident in her memoir Melania, published on October 8, and attributed it to protocol issues. She explained that the narrow red carpet and required distance prevented her from holding his hand, saying, “Protocol required that the president and prime minister walk side by side, trailing their spouses,” although critics disagreed with that explanation found convincing.

Her recent comments suggested that she dislikes the public role that her marriage to Trump entailed. Footage of her expressing frustration with certain aspects of her role as first lady went viral, including her complaints about political commitments and even the White House's Christmas decorations.

Another possibility is that the cold air kiss greeting with Trump is also due to Melania's background. Melania was born in Slovenia, which was part of the former Yugoslavia. She came to America in 2000 and received her citizenship in 2006. In some Germanic and Balkan cultures, the greeting takes the form of a so-called cheek kiss or a three-part hug used to greet close friends and relatives or people with whom one has a friendly relationship in Serbia.

The Oct. 27 rally was a high-energy event with speeches from Trump and his supporters, including podcaster and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean.”
