How much snow is forecast for the mountains of Denver, Colorado?

Denver's first snowfall of the season is headed toward the city on Wednesday, but little of it is expected to last, according to the National Weather Service.

Less than an inch of snow will fall in downtown Denver on Wednesday, according to NWS forecasters.

Forecasters said other major cities — including Arvada, Aurora, Centennial, Highlands Ranch, Lakewood, Littleton and Parker — could accumulate up to 2 inches of snow.

Most of the Denver area's snow is expected to fall Wednesday morning, but a freeze warning is in effect Wednesday evening through Thursday morning, NWS forecasters said.

The watch is active from 10:00 p.m. Wednesday to 9:00 a.m. Thursday and covers Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder, the western suburbs of Denver, Castle Rock, Greeley and Byers.

Frost and freezing conditions overnight Wednesday – including temperatures as high as 22 degrees – could kill unprotected vegetation and potentially damage unprotected outdoor utilities, forecasters said in the warning.
