When is Dodgers vs. Yankees World Series Game 4? Date, time and statements

This unusual situation of drawing inspiration from an arch-rival didn't work (the Yankees were defeated anyway). So we don't expect the 2024 Yankees to release “The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox” on Netflix after trailing the Dodgers 3-0 in this World Series, which continues with Game 4 at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

But what happened 20 years ago will forever remain a reminder that a 3-0 series can still be saved for the bottom team. For the Yankees to do that, their stodgy lineup, batting .186 as a team in this World Series, will have to get going in a game where the Dodgers go the all-reliever route.

“It only takes one,” said Aaron Judge, a huge man who faces enormous scrutiny for his 1-for-12 performance with seven strikeouts in this series. “All it takes is one hit, one hit, one play. “Everything changes for.” That’s just the attitude you have to have when you start here.”

There hasn't been a Fall Classic sweep since the Giants beat the Tigers in 2012. The 11 consecutive World Series without a sweep is the second-longest streak in history, behind a 12-year streak from 1977 to 1988.

The Yankees become the 41st team to fall to 3-0 in a best-of-seven. The 2004 Red Sox (vs. the Yanks) are the only ones with the edge. It's difficult to get to this point in a World Series and even force a Game 5. That hasn't happened since 1970, when the Reds lost the first three, won Game 4 and then lost Game 5.

Even before the Yankees lost Game 3, manager Aaron Boone had ruled out staff ace Gerrit Cole returning during a short layoff. Cole threw just 88 pitches in a great Game 1, but he was battling a right elbow problem that delayed his start to the season, and the Yankees don't want to pressure him.

So it's up to rookie Luis Gil to calm a Dodgers offense that has struck first in every game of this series.

As for the Dodgers' pitching plans, they showed twice this postseason that they could build a win using only their pen, including in their NLCS game-winner against the Mets in Game 6. And they had it under control this World Series since Freddie Freeman gave them the win in the 10th inning of Game 1.

“We know what’s at stake,” Freeman said. “We have the chance to become champions and we know they have nothing to lose and will do everything they can. It’s our job to go out there and hopefully put together another good ball game.”

No Yankees team has beaten the Big Red Machine in the World Series since 1976. But this World Series could be over in a New York minute if the Yankees don't come to life on Tuesday night.

When does the game take place and how can I watch it?
Game 4 of the World Series will be played at Yankee Stadium in New York on Tuesday at 8:08 p.m. ET/5:08 p.m. PT. All World Series games begin at the same time and are televised on FOX.

All games are available in the US on MLB.TV (requires authentication with a participating pay-TV provider). Live games are also available in select countries outside the US. Detailed information can be found here.

Who are the starting pitchers?
Dodgers: TBD
The Dodgers did not announce a starter for their bullpen game, but they could choose between opening with Anthony Banda, Ryan Brasier or Michael Kopech, who closed out Game 3. Behind them, the Dodgers need massive innings from one of Ben Casparius, Brent Honeywell or Landon Knack.

Yankees: RHP Luis Gil (15-7, 3.50 ERA during regular season)
Gil will make his second postseason start after throwing four innings of two-run ball in Game 4 of the ALCS in Cleveland on Oct. 18. A leading candidate for the AL's Rookie of the Year award, Gil faced the Dodgers at Yankee Stadium on June 9 and earned a no-decision, allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings in a 6-4 Yankees victory .

What are the expected starting lineups?
Dodgers: Now that we know that Shohei Ohtani will continue to play due to a left shoulder subluxation, which is a partial dislocation, the Dodgers will likely stick with the same lineup against the right-hander Gil.

Yankees: The Yankees changed their lineup in Game 3, putting Jose Trevino behind the plate while Austin Wells continued to struggle offensively. Given that Los Angeles is moving toward a bullpen game, it's possible Boone plays with that lineup again, saying he likes the left-right balance it provides.

How will the bullpens line up after the starter?
Dodgers: Despite the heavy workload this postseason, the Dodgers bullpen will be in good shape heading into Game 4. Blake Treinen was not needed in Game 3, giving him another day of rest after a heavy workload in Games 1 and 2. Inning reliever will be available and could be extended to multiple frames.

The Yankees haven't seen Casparius, Knack or Honeywell yet, and all three are options for the Dodgers to potentially win multiple innings at once. Honeywell and Casparius performed well in the NLCS against the Mets, while Knack struggled in his only appearance.

Yankees: A third-inning strikeout by Clarke Schmidt forced the Yanks to use seven relievers in Game 3, but since a strikeout is a possibility, all players are considered on board. Mark Leiter Jr., Jake Cousins and Tim Hill each threw 17 shots in Game 3, with Nestor Cortes (15), Clay Holmes (12), Tommy Kahnle (11) and Luke Weaver (six) all seeing action. The only pitcher on the roster who hasn't seen the mound yet this postseason is Marcus Stroman.

Any notable injuries?
Dodgers: Ohtani (left shoulder) and Freeman (right ankle) continue to play with their respective injuries and are expected to start Game 4.

Yankees: Rizzo is suffering from two broken fingers on his right hand, which presents a pain tolerance issue as the fractures will not heal until the offseason.

Who's hot and who's not?
Dodgers: Freeman continued his dominant run in the World Series, hitting a home run in all three games against the Yankees. The star first baseman has now hit a home run in five consecutive Fall Classic games. If the Dodgers pull it off, Freeman will likely take home his first World Series MVP trophy.

Yankees: Stanton doubled and hit a single in Game 3, becoming the only Yankee to record two hits. He leads the team with a 1.110 OPS this postseason. Torres walked twice in Game 3 and has a .390 on-base percentage this postseason. In Game 3, Judge went 0-for-3 with a walk and is 1-for-12 in the World Series with seven strikeouts.

• The Yankees have won eight of the last 11 World Series meetings between the clubs (1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1977, 1978). The Dodgers won three times (1955, 1963, 1981).

• The Dodgers and Yankees previewed the World Series at Yankee Stadium June 7-9, with Los Angeles winning two of the three games. Teoscar Hernández hit a two-run double in the 11th inning of the first game, a 2-1 Dodgers win, and hit two home runs in an 11-3 loss the next night. The Yanks saved the final with a 6-4 win, powered by Trent Grisham's three-run home run off Tyler Glasnow.
