Oops! Amazon publishes an image and specifications of a very small M4 Mac mini

Update 11:30 a.m. ET: Apple has announced the M4 Mac mini, which matches the leaked specs and images below.

We're one announcement into Apple's exciting Mac reveal week and we've already encountered a problem. Not with the new machines themselves (although we have notes), but with someone else revealing an upcoming surprise.

No less a company than Amazon seems to have announced (probably coincidentally) the new M4 version of the Mac mini before Apple could. As MacRumors noted, Amazon's US product listing for the M4 iMac initially included a comparison table to help customers weigh this product's specs and features compared to various alternatives… and those alternatives include the unreleased Mac mini.

The impending launch of the new Mac mini is hardly a secret, although Apple will be annoyed that a supposed partner is drawing attention. (The table has since been removed, reinforcing the impression that this was a mistake.) However, the comparison table naturally contained far more information than the mere fact that the machine existed. Take a look:

For example, the graphic shows that the Mini will be available with the M4 or M4 Pro chip and can have a CPU with up to 14 cores and a GPU with up to 20. It was also noted that the RAM limit has been doubled, with the Mac mini soon being available in up to 64GB, while the maximum storage capacity remains the same at 8TB.

A small image suggested that there will be two front-facing USB-C ports and maybe even a headphone jack on the right side (it's hard to tell what that is). And perhaps most disappointing, the chart indicated that the machine was only sold in one color finish: silver. No trace of the hoped-for Space Black Edition of the Mac mini.
