Trump promises to create a compensation fund for victims of illegal immigration crimes

Former President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that if elected, his administration would create a compensation fund to provide compensation to victims of migrant crime, funded by assets of criminal gangs and drug cartels seized by the U.S. government.

Trump hosted an event Tuesday morning at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, that featured mothers of victims of illegal immigration crimes.

“Today I'm announcing that for the first time under my administration, we will seize the assets of criminal gangs and drug cartels and use those assets to establish a compensation fund to provide compensation to victims of migrant crime,” Trump said Tuesday. “And the government will help with reimbursement. But something has to be done and we will do it.”

The National Border Patrol Council endorsed Trump earlier this month, Trump said, noting he was “the best president we've ever had and by far the best president at the border.”

Trump then played a new video featuring the mother of Jocelyn Nungaray, the 12-year-old girl who was allegedly murdered by two illegal immigrants. Trump described her as “a mother whose life Kamala completely destroyed.”

In the emotional video, Alexis Nungaray recalls her final moments with her daughter and the painful discovery that she had been murdered by two men who were in the United States illegally. The men, who reportedly belonged to a gang known for brutal violence, were arrested by US Border Patrol but then released.

“Kamala Harris was in charge of immigration and our borders,” Nungaray said in the video. “If we had better border policy and no open borders and no catch and release policy, I really believe that all of this could have been prevented.”

Nungaray added: “Kamala Harris had a job, and she failed not only me, but my daughter as well.”

Nungaray recalled that Trump initially reached out to her and said he offered his “sincere condolences, not as a former president, but as a father, as someone who cares about her.”

“She broke it on every topic. They broke it together. But in light of this election, she broke it. I can’t let her go,” Trump said. “And I’m going to fix it, and I’m going to fix it real quick.”
