AMD and Intel results: What to keep an eye on

Chip stocks are in focus, with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Intel (INTC) due to report this week.

Christopher Rolland, senior semiconductor equity analyst at Susquehanna International Group, says AMD is all about the MI300 series processors. “People think MI300 could double the size of the company overall. And that’s why this is a very important pivot point in this report.”

When it comes to Intel, Rolland is blunt. “I think the expectations for this report are low. There is not much that is beautiful. I think the PC market is pretty hectic at the moment. The server market is good for AMD, but I think Intel is suffering some market share losses.” And in the PC market, while they have a good new product with Lunar Lake, it actually runs on TSM silicon, which is a problem for them , as they increasingly look to pivot to their own product. “Gross margin could be a headwind,” he tells Yahoo Finance.
