Full fight card early chances

The next fight card on the UFC schedule is just around the corner. The UFC Edmonton card takes place on Saturday, November 2nd at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In the main event, former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno meets Amir Albazi. Meanwhile, former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas takes on Erin Blanchfield in the flyweight co-main event of the evening.

UFC Edmonton is streaming on ESPN+, with the main card starting at 8:00 p.m. ET. The preliminary card will be available on the same streaming service starting at 5:30 p.m. ET.

UFC Edmonton Main Event: Brandon Moreno vs. Amir Albazi

Moreno (21-8-2) is the No. 2 fighter in the official UFC flyweight rankings. The 30-year-old is a former two-time UFC 125-pound champion. Moreno's first title reign began in June 2021 with a submission win over Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 263. He returned the title to Figueiredo in the UFC 270 rematch, losing that contest via decision in January 2022.

Moreno then won the interim flyweight belt with a UFC 277 TKO triumph over Kai Kara-France in July 2022. In January 2023, Moreno regained the undisputed UFC title from Figueiredo with a TKO victory at UFC 283.

Like his first title run, Moreno's second outing at 125 pounds ended without a successful defense. Alexandre Pantoja took his belt by split decision in July 2023. In February, the former champ then lost a split decision against Brandon Royval. Moreno hasn't fought since.

Amir Albazi (17-1) enters the main event of UFC Fight Night on Saturday as the No. 3 ranked fighter in the UFC's flyweight division.

Albazi made his UFC debut as a short-term replacement in a bantamweight bout against Malcolm Gordon in July 2020. Albazi won that match via submission. He then moved to flyweight for his next outing, a decision win over Zhalgas Zhumagulov in January 2021.

Today, Albazi is a perfect 5-0 with the UFC. He is coming off a split decision win over Kai Kara-France on a UFC on ESPN main event fight card in June 2023.

The UFC had initially booked Moreno vs. Albazi for February of this year, but Albazi had to withdraw from that card due to a neck injury. At the time, Albazi wrote on Twitter: “I pulled out of the fight against Moreno on February 24th.” I have been struggling with a serious neck injury in recent weeks. After a few scans, the UFC doctors decided to pull me out of the fight immediately. I would like to apologize to the fans and the UFC. I will come back, inshallah.”

In July, Albazi provided an update on his status: “I’ll be ready to go in September, so that’s the plan,” Albazi told MMA Junkie Radio. “I am almost completely healed. I would say I'm 85 percent, 90 percent back in the fight. I can barely wait for it. It's been a tough journey so far. I had two operations in a row. I’m just excited, motivated and ready to get back in the cage and do what I do best.”

“It was so hard to come to terms with it,” Albazi added. “I actually had heart surgery in November. So imagine me coming out of heart surgery, starting training, getting into a camp, fighting Moreno to become the next title contender, and then I get this and have to have another surgery on my neck.

“So I felt like it hit me everywhere I see guys just fighting and fighting and fighting. But that just motivates me to get back into it and actually be more active than ever before.”
