Andrea Mitchell says she is quitting her daytime show on MSNBC after 16 years

NEW YORK (AP) — Veteran NBC News reporter Andrea Mitchell said Tuesday that she plans to end her weekday show on MSNBC after the inauguration of a new president and return to a reporting role.

Mitchell, 77, has hosted “Andrea Mitchell Reports” daytime since 2008, longer than anyone else at the network. She has worked for NBC News since 1978 and has covered every major political convention since 1980.

She will continue to report for NBC News, and the network said she will cover major breaking news and political events.

“After chairing every day for 16 years, I want to have more time to do what I love most – connecting, listening and reporting more on the ground, especially as whoever is elected president will take on the monumental task will deal with two wars abroad and the political divisions here at home,” she said on her show.

Mitchell will retain her titles as chief foreign affairs correspondent and chief Washington correspondent for NBC News.
