Charvarius Ward, 49ers player and Mississippi native, announces the death of his 1-year-old daughter

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – San Francisco 49ers cornerback and Mississippi native Charvarius Ward has announced the death of his 1-year-old daughter, Amani Joy.

Ward spoke about the 1-year-old's death in an Instagram post on Tuesday, revealing that Amani passed away on Monday morning.

“She was the best blessing we could have asked for and her joyful spirit had us smiling from ear to ear,” his post reads.

In March, Ward posted a photo of Amani on World Down Syndrome Day. In that post, Ward wrote, “As Amani's father, I learned patience and how to surrender and let things happen.”

“After heart surgery, she was the happiest child I’ve ever been with,” he continued.

Amani would have celebrated her second birthday on November 17th.

The San Francisco 49ers also released a statement on Amani's death, saying the organization was “devastated by the sudden death.”
