Unlicensed driver causes fatal highway crash in Mesa, DPS says

MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — A man is charged with two misdemeanors after causing a crash that killed a woman on U.S. 60 in Mesa over the weekend, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said Tuesday.

According to police, 45-year-old Nicholas Stewart Meyer of Apache Junction was changing lanes on the highway around 8 a.m. Sunday when he veered to the right and collided with a car and two people near Stapley Drive.

One woman, 23-year-old Zoey Arizona Johnson of Glendale, died at the scene.

The other victim, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.

DPS said Meyer was arrested and booked into jail on charges of driving with a suspended or revoked license and causing death by a traffic violation.
