Man charged with assault with a stick in Boulder – Boulder Daily Camera

A man suspected of hitting another man in the head with a 10-foot stick in Boulder was arrested Sunday.

Daniel Joseph Gardner, 38, was arrested on suspicion of first- and second-degree assault, drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday and is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.

According to an affidavit, officers were dispatched to an assault near 30th Street and Shadow Creek Drive at 10:10 a.m. Sunday.

A witness said he saw a man covered in blood running out of the woods and being chased by a white man in a dark jacket.

The victim was taken to Boulder Community Health to have the laceration on his forehead stitched up. He told police he was stepping out of his tent when Gardner hit him in the face with a baseball bat or a large stick. He also said he began running toward 30th Street while Gardner chased him, according to the affidavit.

In an interview with police at the hospital the day before the attack, the injured man said Gardner was angry about feces found on a trail near their campsite and confronted him, saying, “I'll kill you.” kill, I'll cut you open.” Eyeballs.”

According to the affidavit, while exploring the area, officers found a three-foot-long stick labeled “The Wizard” and discovered “what appeared to be fresh drops of blood three to five feet from where the stick was found.” “.

When questioned by police, Gardner initially denied any involvement in the attack and said he had already left the campsite when the man was injured. He also said the man may have fallen on a rock or that the injury may have been self-inflicted, according to the affidavit.
