Man who recently committed two bank robberies was caught attempting a home invasion

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington police say the suspect in two recent bank robberies was caught trying to break into a single-family home in the New North End.

They say last Thursday a resident there discovered that someone had removed the screens from all the windows of his home. Luckily for the homeowner, police said they locked the windows that same day, preventing the suspect from breaking in while his family was sleeping.

Authorities are searching for 39-year-old James Plunkett of Burlington. Captured in the Ring camera footage, he is the same suspect who police say robbed the M&T Bank on Pine Street Saturday morning, claiming he had a bomb.

Then, police say, he hit the Key Bank on Bank Street around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Officers say they have conducted several searches for him but have had no results so far. They also say Plunkett has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2011.
