Fort Worth police try to identify family in fatal Loop 820 crash – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Fort Worth police need the public's help to identify four of the five people killed in a devastating two-vehicle traffic collision early Sunday morning.

The collision occurred just after 3:30 a.m. on westbound Loop 820, just before the Azle Avenue exit in northwest Fort Worth.

According to the police, a family of four in the “wrong-way car” has not yet been clearly identified.

The Tarrant County Coroner's Office identified the passenger in a pickup truck struck by the car as 33-year-old Chelsea Cook. Cook's fiancé, Evan Ranallo, suffered serious injuries.

Friends and family are coping with the sudden loss by remembering how Cook lived.

“If there was one word I could use to describe Chelsea, it would be bright. She was just the personification of light,” said longtime collaborator and friend Brittany Bengry. “She was outgoing and full of life. When I spoke to her mother yesterday she said Chelsea wouldn't want any of us to curl up and be ready.”

Cook and Ranallo were heading home after his band performed at a Halloween event in Keller. They got engaged about three weeks ago during the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque.

Given the extent of the damage, it was particularly difficult to find out the identity of the family of four.

According to police, the family's silver Ford Focus burst into flames during the collision, trapping the suspected mother, father and two minor children.

Investigators believe the family got onto 820 from Azle Avenue, but don't know why, how or why none of the residents noticed.

“As police officers, we look to the community to help us put the pieces of the puzzle back together when something has happened. We’re asking the same thing here,” said Officer Tracy Carter with FWPD. “If you have been with this family and know where the family is, please contact us.”

Although it's difficult to find answers right now, Chelsea's loved ones find comfort in knowing that her final weeks of life were the happiest.

“She had gone on a cruise with some of her best friends and then she was in New Mexico, in Santa Fe, her favorite place,” Bengry said.

Cook worked at a luxury travel company that specialized in exotic trips, including Africa. A few weeks ago, while on vacation, she contacted colleagues to tell them the big news.

“I sent a message. She says, “So…” And then I kind of sent a picture with her

The bell rang and it was adorable and everyone was screaming and it was just amazing,” Bengry said.

This group of friends is now rallying to support Cook's fiancé by starting a GoFundMe.

“We started this last night hoping to help with medical costs and mortgage costs,” she said.
