Motorcyclist dies after three-vehicle crash in Arlington Heights

A motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle crash on the Arlington Heights-Mount Prospect border Tuesday evening.

Arlington Heights police said the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. as the motorcyclist was driving a 2017 Harley Davidson and a Hyundai Elantra westbound on Northwest Highway approaching South Waterman Avenue. The two vehicles were struck by a 16-year-old driving a Hyundai Genesis coupe as he turned left onto Northwest Highway from Waterman.

Attempts to revive the motorcyclist were unsuccessful and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcyclist's name is being withheld until family is notified, police said.

The 16-year-old driver was cited for failure to yield right of way while turning left and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. A first court date is scheduled for November 21st.

The police were able to rule out alcohol or drug impairment on the part of the 16-year-old driver.

The accident caused the intersection to be closed for several hours, police said.
