Mother and 8-year-old son die in a rollover accident in which the child was thrown from the vehicle

PEORIA, Ariz. (KPHO/Gray News) – An Arizona woman and her young son died in a rollover accident over the weekend.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a mother and son died as a result of a single-vehicle crash Saturday evening along State Route 74 at milepost 14 near Quintero Golf Club.

Authorities identified the woman driving the car as 45-year-old Elizabeth Paola Standefer and her 8-year-old son, both from the Phoenix area.

A DPS spokesman said Paola's Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling east on SR 74 around 6:15 p.m. when the SUV veered off the roadway to the right for unknown reasons.

The vehicle then rolled and the child was thrown out.

Standefer and her son were pronounced dead at the scene.
