Jazz player Taylor Hendricks suffers serious leg injury in game against Mavericks: “Super unfortunate”

Utah Jazz forward Taylor Hendricks suffered a serious injury in Monday night's loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

Hendricks was running down the field looking for the ball midway through the third quarter when he slipped and fell. Hendricks' right leg twisted in a way that no one, basketball player or not, should have to deal with.

Hendricks was lifted off the ground on a stretcher. The Jazz said he suffered a fractured fibula and an ankle dislocation.

“He's a great kid, and so we're really just trying to focus on him – keeping his health, his spirits up as he starts the road to recovery,” Jazz head coach Will Hardy said after the game. “But those are the moments in sports that suck.”

He had two points, three rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes. It was the third game he appeared in this season – the second season of his NBA career.

“Super unfortunate,” said Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen. “We are all here for him. It's a shame we lost, but he's more important. We know how hard he worked all summer to be ready for this opportunity, so it definitely feels difficult for him. We're going to stay there for him and support him.

“We talk about fighting through adversity, whatever it may be. Tonight that was it. No one can do it alone, so it's about sticking together and trying to get through it and not giving up.”
