Look at Carmel!

Carmel, NY is a quaint little town hidden in the beautiful Hudson Valley known for its relaxed atmosphere and friendly community. With a crime rate of just 5.04 per 1,000 residents, it's a great place for retirees looking for peace and quiet. Here you will find numerous cultural events, artistic events and charming boutiques that give the city that cozy small town feel. In addition, the breathtaking nature all around is perfect for hiking and enjoying nature.

It's also super convenient since it's less than two hours from New York City. This means retirees can always enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city while still having a quiet retreat to return to. With a vibrant community and plenty of activities, Carmel is a good choice for seniors looking for a quiet but engaging place to settle down.

Now I grew up in Brewster, NY, just a stone's throw from Carmel. Sure, it's historic, beautiful and safe, but let's be honest: we weren't fans of the Carmel crowd. You know how it is – small town rivalries can destroy all the peace and charm!

Another Putnam County city is on the list

It's worth noting that Cold Spring, NY, which is not far from Carmel, is also one of the safest cities in America. This nearby gem offers similar outdoor recreation opportunities and a picturesque atmosphere, further enriching the region's retirement experience.

PS: I used to live on Marco Island – it's beautiful, but let's be honest, the safety there is partly because everyone is a million years old.
