Source – Packers QB Jordan Love's tests show no significant damage

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The groin injury suffered by Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love in Sunday's win over the Jacksonville Jaguars is not expected to sideline him long-term, a source told ESPN.

Tests on Monday showed no significant damage, it is a strain. A source said his availability for Sunday's NFC North showdown against the Detroit Lions will depend on how he feels and what progress he makes throughout the week.

If the Packers (6-2) don't have a game against the Lions (6-1) on Sunday, there's a good chance it will be the only game he misses because Green Bay gets a bye the following week.

Malik Willis, who replaced Love on Sunday, would start against the Lions if Love is out.

While Packers coach Matt LaFleur did not provide another update on Love's status Monday, he said his quarterback appeared to be in “good spirits.”

“Yeah, if he can go, he will go,” LaFleur said. “So at the end of the week we’ll see where he stands. But if we feel like he can’t protect himself, then there’s no way we would put him in that position.”

Examinations on cornerback Jaire Alexander's knee also revealed no significant concerns, according to a source, ESPN said. There's no word yet on his availability for Sunday's game against the Lions, but the Packers will keep an eye on his soreness throughout the week. Alexander was injured on Green Bay's final defensive play in Sunday's win. He appeared unable to put any weight on his right leg as he skipped off the field.

Love, who suffered an injury on the game's first drive, finished the first half but then limped to the sideline after the first snap of the third quarter and did not return.

The Packers never ruled him out, but he spent the rest of the game on the sideline. Love, who threw his ninth interception of the second season after showing early signs of a groin injury, did not speak to reporters after the game.
