Freddie Freeman hits a home run in a record sixth consecutive World Series game

Whatever the outcome of the 2024 World Series, Freddie Freeman's performance will be remembered for a while.

The Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman made history in Game 4 on Tuesday with a two-run home run off New York Yankees rookie Luis Gil that gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the first inning of an elimination game for New York. At 343 feet, it wasn't the longest home run, but Yankee Stadium will help a lot of left-handed power bats.

For the first time in the series, Freeman's home run wasn't enough to help the Dodgers win. The Yankees eked out an 11-4 victory, extending the World Series to Game 5 on Wednesday and cutting their deficit to 3-1. Freeman finished his night 1-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a run scored and three RBIs.

The story that Freeman wrote is twofold. He is the first player to ever hit a home run in the first four games of a World Series, having previously tied the record with Barry Bonds and Hank Bauer with three hits. He also has now scored in six straight World Series games after going deep in the final two games of the Atlanta Braves' 2021 victory.

Freeman has been one of the top hitters in the MLB for years, but in this Classic he has reached a new level. He also started this series without any trouble, as he sprained his right ankle late in the regular season and was significantly limited in the first two rounds of the postseason.

Freeman didn't record an extra-base hit in either the NLDS or NLCS, and he missed a few games to help his ankle heal, but he now has four home runs and a triple in the games that matter most. The most memorable of those home runs, of course, was his walk-off grand slam in Game 1, the first of its kind in World Series history.
