The death toll in North Carolina from Hurricane Helene tops 100

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) – The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) announced that the death toll from Hurricane Helene in North Carolina has exceeded 100.

As of Wednesday, October 30, there were 101 documented storm-related deaths, according to official information.

Here's a look at the total number of counties in Western North Carolina:

  • Buncombe County – 43
  • Haywood – 5
  • Henderson County – 9
  • Macon County-2
  • Madison County – 4
  • McDowell County – 1
  • Mitchell County-2
  • Polk County-1
  • Rutherford County – 4
  • Yancey County – 10

Officials said a majority of the overall deaths were unfortunately due to drowning, landslides and blunt force injuries.
