First rain warning today and a mix of Halloween

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – We broke several record highs yesterday. Outside of Wausau, most communities in north-central Wisconsin reached record highs. Wednesday morning will also be very warm.

Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening is the most likely chance of precipitation, be it rain or snow.

We'll start out the door this morning in the mid-60s. We would be well on our way to breaking records if it stayed this warm through the end of the day on Wednesday. However, this will not be the case.

Showers and storms are expected this afternoon. At times the rainfall is moderate or even heavy. Severe weather is still not expected, but storms can produce strong gusts of wind.

It is expected to rain again on Thursday morning. This second round will bring rain to most of central Wisconsin and a rain/snow mix to the Northwoods. When the area stops raining, we expect about 1 to 3 inches of rain. Most of us won't get any measurable snow, but some communities in the far Northwoods could collect an inch or two of snow on elevated areas. Roads and sidewalks will be less affected as they are still warm from the heat we have had this week.

Temperatures for trick-or-treaters vary. Some of us will be near Highway 29 and in the mid to low 40s to the south. If you're trick-or-treating in the Northwoods, there's a higher chance you'll be in your mid to upper 30s.

On Halloween, temperatures in the Northwoods will be significantly cooler than further south.

The rest of the week will feel a lot more like fall. High temperatures will be in the 50s to 55s for most of the weekend and early next week. More rain is expected from Sunday to Tuesday. It's too early to tell how much precipitation we'll get.
