Buddy Hield of the Warriors shares Reggie Miller's profane advice before facing the Pelicans in the second half

There are only a handful of NBA shooters who have been given the unquestioned green light to make the game fly virtually anytime, anywhere on the court. Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is perhaps the most famous example, but his new teammate Buddy Hield is given the same level of freedom by head coach Steve Kerr. Still, the confidence of the most dangerous snipers can waver, and that may have been evident in Golden State's 124-106 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night.

With Curry, Andrew Wiggins and De'Anthony Melton out of the lineup, Hield was tasked with filling much of the offensive void as he earned his first start of the season against the team that drafted him. Things went completely wrong in the first half, however: Hield scored just three points on 1-for-8 shooting, including 1 of 5 from 3-point range, while the Warriors only mustered 47 points at halftime.

However, since such things often happen to long-range shooters, Hield was a different player in the second half as he scored 25 points – 19 in the fourth quarter alone – on 8-for-10 shooting, including 6-for-6 from beyond the arc bow. What's even more impressive is that he did it all in under 12 minutes.

It turns out that Hield's blistering second half can be attributed to a little more than just a hot shooter. As he faded away in the fourth quarter, Hield continued to yell toward Hall of Famer and Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller, who was kicking off the game for TNT at Chase Center. On the broadcast, Miller explained that he gave Hield some advice at halftime, but declined to provide details.

Luckily for us, Hield was never one to keep his mouth shut, and he revealed a censored version of Miller's message that contributed to the second-half explosion: “He told me to shoot the blind ball. Sometimes you need someone like that.” Come to you, and I responded well.

With Tuesday's 28-point win, Hield continued a brilliant start in a Warriors jersey. He joined Curry as the only players in Warriors history to make at least 20 3-pointers in his first four games with the franchise and is now averaging a team-best 21.3 points per game on an absurd 3-point shooting average -Throwing rate of 56%.

Hield and Golden State seemed like a match made in heaven when he joined the team via the six-team trade that sent Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks this offseason, but it was hard to predict that things would turn out well The So The soon. Expect Hield to have Miller on speed dial for the rest of the season, just in case he needs another bout of motivation in the middle of a game.
