Apple releases a new video introducing the MacBook Pro

For the third year in a row, Apple has released an Apple Event-style video, this time for its newly announced MacBook Pro lineup.

As with the videos earlier in the week, the new MacBook Pro video is hosted by Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus. CEO Tim Cook is also not visible in this video.

As expected, part of the video is used to promote Apple Intelligence. However, much of the video is spent talking about the technical innovations of Apple's Pro-level MacBook.

The video ends with an animated short film showing a powerlifter wearing an M4 shirt, lifting an impressive amount of weight – and then going a few steps further.

The all-new M4 MacBook Pro is available in two sizes – a 14-inch and a 16-inch size. The base 14-inch MacBook Pro M4 starts at $1,599, and the base 14-inch MacBook Pro M4 Pro starts at $1,999. The souped-up 14-inch MacBook Pro M4 Max costs $3,199.

If you want to go bigger, the base MacBook Pro M4 Pro 16-inch starts at $2,499 and the base MacBook Pro M4 Max 16-inch starts at $3,499.

Pre-orders begin on Wednesday, with the first models expected to ship on November 8th. However, these shipping dates will likely be postponed if there is significant interest.

The MacBook Pro announcement video marks the third time Apple has released an Apple Event-style video without fully committing to a full-length event, and will likely release a third video to coincide with Wednesday's hardware reveal. It's possible Apple is testing a new format for non-iPhone releases, which would mark another change in the way Apple announces products.

In 2020, Apple began pre-recording its Apple Events as the global pandemic prevented the company from holding live, in-person events. Since then, Apple has stuck with this format and it's likely that Apple will further limit its events for smaller hardware releases, opting to promote “announcement weeks” instead of hour-long events.
