World Series odds, picks, best bets

The Yankees will continue their quest to become the first team to win the World Series after losing three games to none at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

Jack Flaherty faces Gerrit Cole in a rematch of the exciting series opener on Friday.

The Yankees' odds to win this matchup are about -150, the same odds as Game 4.

When Cole batted against Flaherty in Game 1, the Dodgers were rated as -125 favorites, so the price adjustment for this matchup is above the typical amount offered for home field advantage.

Dodgers vs Yankees Prediction

(8:08 p.m. ET, FOX)

None of the Dodgers' top relievers played in Tuesday's matchup, and Flaherty was arguably better than expected in Game 1.

If anything, these factors could point to a closer price for Wednesday's matchup.

There are some concerns about Flaherty, and it looks like oddsmakers are buying into that narrative based on the prices. The Yankees are an even bigger favorite to win through the first five innings (-155).

Flaherty threw a full week of rest in Game 1 and also had success in Game 1 of the NLCS with additional rest. Between those starts was a terrible road trip at Citi Field during the regular break.

Jack Flaherty received a no-decision in Game 1. AP

Flaherty's last two throws in the first game were an 88.8 mph fastball and a meatball that allowed a home run. After the game it was reported that he was struggling with a hamstring strain.

Flaherty has allowed a 41% hard-hit rate and a .273 expected batting average with a meager 10% strikeout-minus-walk rate in his last 10 starts, posting a 4.70 ERA during the stretch.

In contrast, Cole has posted a 2.88 ERA and a 14% strikeout-minus-walk rate in his last 10 starts while holding opponents to a .188 average.

The Dodgers' rotation is full of right-handed pitchers, which benefits the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers are the best lineup in baseball against righties (120 wRC+), but have been more lethal against righties (107 wRC+).

Will the Yankees' offense get a spark from Tuesday's big offensive breakthrough?

It is possible. While it was pretty meaningless at the time, Aaron Judge had to be feeling good after recording just his second hit of the series.

If the Yankees find a way to send this series back to Los Angeles, it likely means they took advantage of Flaherty early and got a solid start from Cole, as all of the Dodgers' powerful arms should be ready to go.

Dodgers vs. Yankees selection

I'm guessing the narrative.

A wide range of work suggests that Cole is still far superior to Flaherty, and these attacks perform more comparably in the splits compared to this matchup.
