Kelly Macdonald joins the crime drama from HBO and DC Studios

Kelly Macdonald, known for her work in Boardwalk Empire And No country for old menhas joined the cast of HBO and DC Studios' high-profile superhero crime series Lanterns.

Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre star in the crime drama, directed by Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Guardian, Lost) and Eisner Award-winning comic book writer Tom King. The trio serves as executive producer and writer, with Mundy serving as showrunner for the planned eight-episode season.

Lanterns should be a coarse-grained, True detective mood and follows Hal Jordan (Chandler), a legend of the space police known as the Green Lanterns, as he reluctantly mentors Stewart (Pierre), a younger Green Lantern. The two intergalactic police officers are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Macdonald will play Sheriff Kerry, who, according to the character description, is a no-nonsense woman who is deeply devoted to her family and her close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that has strengthened her resolve, sustains her as the community's secrets come to light.

The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, who also serves as executive producer.

Macdonald received an Emmy nomination for her work Boardwalk Empirethe historical crime drama that aired on HBO from 2010 to 2014. Over and beyond No countryHer film work ranges from Trainspotting To Harry Potter and Death's Cave – Part 2 to voice the lead role in Pixar's film Brave. Most recently she starred alongside Damian Lewis in a vampire film The Radleys.
