Portals.org announces the move of the Viral NYC Portal

The famous NYC portal has moved to Philadelphia after its first exhibition at the Flatiron South Plaza in Manhattan and is having a grand reopening at John F. Kennedy Plaza, also known as Love Park.

October 23, 2024 – Philadelphia, PA – Portals.org [http://portals.org]the organization behind the popular technology sculptures, announces the viral NYC Portal's move to Philadelphia, unveiling its new home at the iconic John F. Kennedy Plaza, commonly known as Love Park.

Philadelphia, the birthplace of American independence and the country's first World Heritage City, now hosts one of the global network's portals, connecting people across borders through a real-time live stream. Identical portal sculptures can be found in Vilnius (Lithuania), Lublin (Poland) and Dublin (Ireland). New locations, including Piaui (Brazil), will be announced soon. The live stream changes between all locations every 3 minutes.

The move was made possible through the generous support of the Flatiron NoMad Partnership, which opened the portal for temporary public art exhibition in the United States back in May 2024 and managed the portal at Flatiron South Plaza in Manhattan until the end of the summer.

The installation of the portal at Love Park was generously supported by the Ironworkers Local Union 405. In addition to providing unpaid services, the local union employed 405 graduates of the Ironworkers Academy, a four-week paid training program hosted by the City of Philadelphia's Rebuild Program in collaboration with Ironworkers Local 401 and 405 and the PA CareerLink. Additional support was generously provided by Operating Engineers Local 542 and Rebel Trucking & Rigging, LLC.
