Man convicted of killing a 16-year-old in Springfield in 1999 will be paroled

A man convicted in a fatal shooting in Springfield in 1999 has been granted parole by the state's parole board and will be released after 12 months in a lower-security prison.

Domingo Archeval was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of 16-year-old Dustin Lee Valdez in 2000 after a jury trial in Hampden Superior Court. The jury also convicted Archeval of a number of minor crimes, including assault and battery for the non-fatal shooting of another 16-year-old.

Archeval appeared before the parole board for the first time in July this year. During that hearing, he claimed his brother was the shooter but admitted he started the fight that sparked the shooting.
