Tagged black bear makes 120-mile trek to Hailey

HAILEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – Idaho Fish and Game has once again relocated a black bear cub after traveling over mountains and rivers for over two weeks.

A black bear cub in Carmen repeatedly visited a home where it regularly found unsecured pet food. On Oct. 3, a regional wildlife biologist pounced on the cub, tagged it and brought it to Panther Creek in the Salmon National Forest.

Hailey residents observed the same bear cub on October 19th and 20th, over 120 miles from the original release area.

The Magic Valley Regional Office of Idaho Fish and Game received its first report of the bear on Oct. 21. Conservation officers found him eating apples in a residential backyard.

Idaho Fish and Game captured the bear and released it east of Pocatello in the Caribou National Forest.

The Wood River Valley is seeing an increase in black bear sightings. Officials advised residents to keep food attractants such as trash, pet food and bird feeders out of bear reach.
