Man dies in accident in Northeast Portland, 21-year-old charged with manslaughter

PORTLAND Oregon (KPTV) – A 51-year-old man died and a 21-year-old man was arrested after a crash Monday in Northeast Portland, the Portland Police Bureau said Wednesday.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m., police responded to a two-car collision near Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast 118th Avenue.

After an initial investigation, police said the accident occurred when the driver of a 2007 Dodge Caliber turned left from Northeast Halsey Street onto Northeast 118th Avenue.

Manuel D. Espana Torres, of Portland, was driving a 2009 Acura East on Northeast Halsey Street when he crashed into the passenger side of the Dodge. Zachary D. Fine was in the Dodge and died in the accident.

Investigators believe speeding contributed to the accident.

Espana Torres underwent a medical examination and was then booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of second-degree manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving.
