World Series Score: Live updates as Aaron Judge's first home run of the Fall Classic puts the Yankees ahead early against the Dodgers

The 2024 World Series continues on Wednesday night with Game 5 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees. The Yankees avoided a win in the best-of-seven series on Tuesday, winning an 11-4 boat race that saw their offense come to life for the first time in the series. Still, the Yankees need to win again on Wednesday to extend the series and force a return to Los Angeles for Games 6 and (if necessary) 7.

No team in MLB history has ever recovered from a 3-0 deficit to win the World Series. By the way, no team has ever forced a Game 6 under such conditions.

The Yankees start Gerrit Cole while the Dodgers counter with Jack Flaherty in a rematch of Game 1. Cole held the Dodgers to one run on four hits and struck out four batters in six innings. Flaherty, for his part, gave up two runs on five hits and a walk. He crossed out six.

Aaron Judge started the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run, his first home run in 25 at-bats and first of the World Series. Jazz Chisholm Jr. immediately followed with a home run of his own and the Yankees are on the rise. The Yankees struck out one more in the second before Flaherty was pulled.

Below, CBS Sports will provide live analysis during Game 5.
