BCSO announces two new arrests in the shooting of a woman at a Southwest Side party

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar announced two arrests in connection with the shooting of Desirae Rivera, a 21-year-old woman killed at a Southwest Side party in March.

The sheriff said Lorenzo Montes, 20, was arrested at his home Wednesday morning without incident. Montes was later booked into the Bexar County Adult Jail on two charges: murder and aggravated assault with a firearm discharged from a motor vehicle, jail records show.

Aggravated assault with a firearm discharged during a motor vehicle charge is considered a first-degree felony, Salazar said.

Wednesday's second arrest in the case was 19-year-old Hector Torres, who was taken into custody in Missouri, where he is a student at Hannibal LaGrange University in Hannibal, Missouri.

During Wednesday's press conference, which you can watch below, Salazar also noted that Torres is a student-athlete at the university.

KSAT reached out to Hannibal LaGrange University on Wednesday to confirm Torres' status as a student-athlete at the university but has not yet received a response.

Torres is currently being extradited to Bexar County, Salazar said. If extradited, Torres faces the same two charges as Montes.

The sheriff also said Wednesday that additional arrests could be made in connection with the case.

Last month, Salazar announced the first arrest in connection with the fatal shooting.

In September, 20-year-old Jonathan Arriola was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Salazar said Wednesday that Arriola's aggravated assault with a deadly weapon would be upgraded to aggravated assault with a firearm discharged from a motor vehicle, consistent with the charges against Montes and Torres.

According to Bexar County Jail records, Arriola remains in the Bexar County Adult Jail. For both charges, Arriola must pay bail totaling $325,000.

Rivera's death came after disagreements broke out during a large, unsanctioned gathering on Old Pearsall Road, which was heavily promoted on social media.

Responding to the shooting call at 4 a.m. March 9, officers determined that Rivera was fatally wounded and another 28-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Rivera's family has been vocal in their advocacy for justice and described the heartache they have experienced since her death.

As investigators have gathered witness statements and collected evidence over the past few months, the arrests represent a significant step forward in providing the Rivera family with answers.
