Anitta and The Weeknd share video for single “São Paulo”.

What was that?

Anitta and the Weeknd's new single “São Paulo” was released Wednesday afternoon alongside a disturbing video that features the Brazilian pop star singing with a pregnant belly. The strange visualizer arrives just in time for Halloween and shows Anitta in distress running through New York in lingerie. Surrounded by flashing lights, the camera zooms in on her big belly, showing the moment he grows his lips to sing the Weeknd's lyrics. The video was directed by experimental artist Freeka Tet and the FX were constructed by Manny Lemus.

Earlier this week, Anitta posted a photo of her in a hotel room wearing the same wardrobe and belly we saw in the video. “It should be kept secret…” Anitta captioned the post. The Weeknd responded with “Omg… Congratulations [crying laughing emoji]”, reposted the photo and wrote: “@Anitta, you hid it so well in São Paulo.”

The pair debuted the upbeat single back in September at the Weeknd's “One Night Only” concert in Brazil. According to Billboard Brasil, “São Paulo” will be featured on the Weeknd’s upcoming “Hurry Up Tomorrow” album.

“We knew it [the song ‘São Paulo’] “was too special to just play on stage,” he told the publication. “We saw great potential in the song and found the beat that is the heart of the show.” Talking about the song, Anitta was quoted as saying, “I wrote some verses as a joke and never thought they would turn serious. Suddenly I received the finished song. I loved it! I was very honored and flattered.”
