Gunman accused of killing a woman and a dog in a small Michigan village is charged with murder

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI – A man called police to report he killed a woman Saturday and now faces one count of open murder and another of killing a dog.

Police found Nichole Marie Doerschler lying in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head after Adam Gerard Lyons called 911 around 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 26th. According to court documents related to his arrest, she was at a home at 120 N. Main Street in the Village of Climax.

Dörschler was pronounced dead moments later.

Lyons is charged with open murder in Doerschler's death, which carries a maximum sentence of life, and with killing/torturing an animal related to the Cane Corso that was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head. Lyons was also charged with two counts of felony firearm.

Lyons was arraigned on these charges on Tuesday, October 29th. Bond was rejected.

During a conversation with a 911 dispatcher, Lyons said he would “beat up” anyone who showed up, court documents say. He cried, swore and raged, documents say.

Officers found the man leaning against a fence in his backyard with a loaded gun next to him and another in his waistband. More firearms were found around the house.

The village of Climax has a population of over 700 and is located in eastern Kalamazoo County.
