Man and woman killed in separate shootings in Los Angeles area Koreatown

KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A suspect was arrested on suspicion of killing a man and a woman in two separate shootings in Los Angeles, sparking an investigation Wednesday.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the second shooting occurred on Berendo Street in Koreatown just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. A 38-year-old woman was found in a car with a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to authorities, the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Marvin Magana, went to the LAPD's 77th Division station to report a shooting and stated that his partner had been shot.

Magana was taken into custody and charged with murder. He is being held on $3,000,000 bail.

Authorities later determined he was connected to another fatal shooting that occurred two miles away on Victoria Avenue in the Mid-Wilshire area around 4:30 p.m. that same afternoon.

According to police, the suspect intentionally hit a man on an e-bike with his car and then fatally shot him several times.

A couple who lives in the area told Eyewitness News off-camera that they were on their way home when they saw a driver in a sedan hit the victim. The woman said when they stopped to help, they saw the driver backing up, apparently trying to hit the victim again.

The couple says they saw the driver get out and pull out a gun. When they realized what was happening, they drove away and called 911 several times but were unable to reach a dispatcher.

The 43-year-old victim died at the scene of the accident.

Although investigators have linked the same suspect to both shootings, the motive for both shootings has not been determined.
