Elizabethtown man admits killing two men before intentionally setting a house on fire

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A man has been arrested in connection with a house fire that killed two men in Elizabethtown on Wednesday, October 30, according to police.

The fire was reported in the 500 block of Henon Lane Shortly before 5 a.m. on October 30th. Elizabethtown police and firefighters responded and arrived at a completely destroyed home.

Chris Denham, public information officer for EPD, said when firefighters entered the home they found two men dead inside. Both men, 41-year-old Blake France of Greenville and 43-year-old Anthony Garrett of Elizabethtown, had been shot.

According to officials, it was determined that the fire was intentionally set. Witnesses told police that a gold pickup truck was seen leaving the scene.

Denham said officers quickly found the truck at a local motel. Video surveillance showed 45-year-old Dustin Caudill exiting the truck and later discarding a handgun. Later in the investigation, police found the victims' personal items in Caudill's motel room.

During an interview, Caudill admitted to shooting the victims and intentionally setting the house on fire. It was also revealed that Caudill also shot a third victim. According to police, he also admitted to stealing the victims' wallets and throwing them in a gas station trash can.

Caudill was taken into custody and charged with arson, two counts of murder, tampering with evidence, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, robbery and wanton endangerment. He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
