Larger portions are returning to Chipotle after food shortage complaints went viral

(CNN) — Chipotle is taking a closer look at the amount of food served to its customers as it addresses guest complaints about portion sizes.

The Mexican restaurant chain's interim CEO, Scott Boatwright, mentioned that he addressed the issue during a company earnings call on Tuesday.

Boatwright said there have been numerous complaints on social media about inconsistent portion sizes at the fast-casual restaurant.

And apparently there is some truth to the outrage.

Earlier this year, a Wells Fargo analyst weighed 75 of Chipotle's burrito bowls at several locations in New York City.

The result… different portion sizes.

Frustrated Chipotle customers shared videos of their burritos being made while they ordered, which soon went viral, with many of them accusing the company of skimping on portions.

Boatwright said the company focuses on consistent and generous portions for its customers.

A former Chipotle official said employees were never told to serve different amounts of food, but a reevaluation of the overall process was needed.
