Colorado Springs police seize AK-47, large capacity magazine near high school | Crime and Justice

An AK-47 and a high-capacity magazine were seized by Colorado Springs police from a man near Palmer High School late Wednesday morning.

Police received a report of a juvenile male carrying an AK-47 near the intersection of East Boulder Street and North Wahsatch Avenue, across from the Palmer High School gymnasium, according to a department online blotter entry.

The 18-year-old was carrying an AK-47 rifle over his shoulder “in a non-threatening manner” and was not on school property, officials said. The rifle had a large-capacity magazine, which is illegal to possess in Colorado, police said.

Officials said the incident occurred during the school's lunch break.

Police received a similar report last week.

Palmer High School was placed on temporary lockdown last Thursday after police were told a man was carrying an AK-47 near the school.
