Incident leads to search for backpacks at CI High School – Brainerd Dispatch

CROSBY – On Tuesday, Oct. 22, students at Crosby-Ironton High School had their backpacks searched by police after a disturbing message was found on a graphing calculator in a classroom.

The message said, “I have a gun in my bag.” When the teacher found the message, he reported it to the principal and all students in that class were sent to the office while their backpacks were searched. The student who wrote the message admitted this, explaining that he thought it was a joke and had forgotten to empty the calculator before returning it, school officials said. No weapon was found during the search.

“Please know that the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority,” Principal Jennifer Strom said in an email to families. “We take potential threats or concerning behavior very seriously and work closely with local law enforcement to address such situations.”

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under the Staff headline. Often the notation “stab” is used when rewriting basic short messages that come from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. Sometimes this byline is used when a news story has multiple authors or when the story is created by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, this will be noted in the story.
