Man arrested and accused of setting vehicles and a home on fire in Miami Township

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio – A man was arrested for allegedly setting multiple fires outside a Miami Township home, according to court records.

According to court records, 34-year-old Christopher Marshall was arrested and charged with aggravated arson. Court documents say Marshall set fire to the house on East Miami River Road in addition to two vehicles and a mobile home.

The fires occurred Wednesday morning at a property on East Miami River Road near Cleves.

Miami Township Fire Chief Matt Schumann told a WCPO crew on scene that the fires started directly across from a fire station. Firefighters cleaned their equipment and discovered the fire across the street.

Schumann said two cars, the front and back of a house, were on fire when firefighters responded.

Firefighters found two people outside the home who had escaped the fire; They were treated on site but did not need to be taken to a hospital, Schumann said.

Additional crews were called in to help fight the fire and the Hamilton County Fire Investigation Unit was assigned to investigate.

On Wednesday morning, Schumann would not say whether arson was suspected, but said officials were treating the fire as suspicious because several different areas of the home were burning.

Marshall is scheduled to be arraigned in court Thursday morning.
