Colorado Springs police are on “accident alert” Thursday morning.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Colorado Springs Police remain on accident alert Thursday morning after the city experienced true winter weather for the first time this season.

It was snowing for some and freezing temperatures for everyone Wednesday evening, resulting in some slick roads. CSPD implemented a crash alert status in response to the inclement weather.

Accident Alert is activated when CSPD anticipates a large number of motor vehicle accidents will occur and is unable to respond to all accidents due to severe weather conditions. When an accident warning is in place, police will only respond to a collision if a car is undriveable due to damage, the accident results in a death or injury requiring medical attention, alcohol or drugs are involved, or it the accident is a suspected hit-and-run or if there is damage to public property other than wildlife.

Police urge drivers to report an accident within 72 hours.
