CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A North Carolina man has been convicted in a fatal shooting at a Myrtle Beach area condo.

The 15th Judicial District Attorney's Office said 22-year-old Mitchell Skyes II of Wingate pleaded guilty to murder on Wednesday. Skyes' case was related to a shooting on Hartland Drive in May 2023.

Prosecutors said Skyes shot 23-year-old Jordan Drake and that both men knew each other from the same North Carolina town.

Officials said both men were friends growing up before an argument broke out shortly before the shooting. Both men were visiting Myrtle Beach and decided to meet to resolve their differences.

At that point, prosecutors said, Skyes pulled out a gun and shot Drake in front of several witnesses. Skyes was arrested shortly after the shooting.

A judge sentenced Skyes to 35 years in prison after his guilty plea. The law firm noted that murder is a “day crime,” meaning Skyes must serve every day of his 35-year sentence before being released.
