Judge denies bail reduction for Longview man charged in fatal shooting

LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) – A Longview man charged with murder has been denied a bail reduction.

Tavyon Damun Stephenson, 19, has been in the Gregg County Jail since July 25 after Isaiah Dickson, 18, died of gunshot wounds at a hospital. Stephenson's bond was set at $500,000 and he appeared in Judge J. Scott Novy's court Thursday to request a reduction.

Stephenson's defense appealed to Novy, saying he could not afford the bail. The request was rejected.

According to a Facebook post from Longview Police following the original incident, officers responded to a shooting at the Townhouse South Apartments in the 5500 block of West Loop 281 just before 10 p.m. Officers determined Dickson had suffered a gunshot wound and he was taken to a hospital. where he died.

Stephenson's next status hearing will be February 5, 2025.
