The indictment details the attack in Minneapolis that led to a shooting spree that killed a man in Kandiyohi County

Another friend of the ex-girlfriend came to help. As the group left the apartment, he pulled up in a car and Matariyeh immediately pointed a gun at him before smashing the gun into the windshield. Everyone fled as Matariyeh ran back into the apartment.

The two men met in a parking lot before attempting to return to the apartment. Then they looked up and saw Matariyeh on the balcony. Matariyeh immediately began firing several shots at them as they took cover behind parked cars.

Around that time, Minneapolis police officers arrived and made contact with Matariyeh's ex-girlfriend. She believed he was still in the apartment, but officers later learned he had fled. They reached him by phone. He told officers that he would kill innocent people if he couldn't talk to his ex-girlfriend or see his daughter, who was in daycare at the time. He later told police negotiators that “he wanted to go out with 'suicide by cop.'

Meanwhile, Matariyeh raced westward.

Officers pursued him near Cosmos in Meeker County after being alerted that Matariyeh may have stolen another vehicle at gunpoint in Carver County.

Around 2 p.m., he pulled into Peter Mayerchak's rural driveway in Lake Lillian. Mayerchak, who was spreading hay over his septic tank mound in his yard, went and greeted Matariyeh, who shot him in the chest.
