Liberty University students complete the Murph Challenge to honor the fallen Navy Seal

On Saturday, Liberty University students completed the Murph Challenge in honor of Lt. Michael Murphy.

He was a Navy Seal who was killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2005.

The challenge includes a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats and then another mile.

This is the second year of this student event.

All money raised will go to the National Center for Healthy Veterans, a local organization that helps veterans cope with war trauma.

“We wanted to come here and honor those who sacrificed their lives and time for us. Because without that, we as a country have nothing to gain. We are very, very honored and blessed to live in the largest country on the planet,” said Nick Salonites, the founder of the LU Murph Challenge.

This year, LU's Murph Challenge is expected to raise approximately $50,000 for the charity. Last year they raised around $40,000.
