The mayor of Somerset, Thomas Johnson, dies in an accident

SOMERSET – The mayor of Somerset was killed in a car accident Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Thomas Johnson, 68, was traveling east on Rush Creek Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. His vehicle left the road to the right, then hit a security guard, went down an embankment and overturned.

Johnson was taken to Genesis Perry County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Perry County Sheriff's Office, Reading Township Fire Department and Medflight.

The crash is still under investigation.
