Wayne County pickup truck crash kills 60-year-old motorcyclist: OSHP

CONGRESS TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) – A crash in Wayne County killed a motorcyclist who crashed into the bed of a pickup truck as it was turning onto the road, the Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed.

OSHP said Wooster Post troopers were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on West Britton Road near Maple Valley Drive in Congress Township on Oct. 23 around 2:30 p.m.

The on-scene investigation revealed that a 42-year-old Creston man was driving a Ford F-250 and towing farm equipment, OSHP said.

According to OSHP, the Ford exited a field driveway to turn east onto West Britton Road.

According to OSHP, 60-year-old George W. Wood Jr. of Burbank was driving a green 2001 Harley Davidson Heritage Springer eastbound on West Britton Road.

The Harley then struck the rear of the Ford F-250 as it was turning onto the road, OSHP said.

OSHP confirmed that Wood was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to OSHP, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have contributed to the crash, OSHP said, which remains under investigation.
